Salam & good day to all,
Eet Smakelijk means "eat deliciously" is a Dutch way to say " enjoy your meal", "bon appetite" or "sila menjamu selera". From my experience, there is no such thing as a complete Dutch meal, contrary to the neighbouring country like France (or further away - Italy / Spain). Common Dutch breakfast and lunch are "cold meals" and these are accompanied by either milk, tea or coffee. If you're lucky, you will have a nice pancake with strop syrup. (no nasi lemak,!) (they prefer a heavy meal during dinner). The consumption of dairy products is extremely high, explaining high average height of Dutch men (average 180cm) and women (168cm). (ayoo pakcik below average laaaaa - both of my supervisors ~ over 183 cm). Anyway, despite of their less-mouth watering taste of nice gourmet (figuratively!), some of nice and simple Dutch snacks are worth it to try.
Poffertjes
Very small pancakes served warm with lots of powdered sugar sprinkled on top. Sometimes whipped cream and selected fruits are used too! ..... (janji boleh makan)
Kaassoufflé
A kaassoufflé as found in a snack bar is a thick slice of cheese in a layer of pastry. Breaded and deep-fried, of course. (Macam apple pie kt McD, tp inti dia keju .....sodapppp)
Haring

A typical Dutch delicacy is eating a raw fish called herring with raw onions. The fish has been cleaned and the head removed. You pick the fish up by the tail and let it slide into your mouth ~. (Dutch version of sashimi / sushi). Ada berani ?
Patat Oorlog

Patat (bukan mencarut ye.... ) Oorlog is simply fries seasoned with salt ,topped with frite Sauce (mayonaisse), sate Sauce @ pindaasauce (peanut sauce) and chopped onion . Patat means "fries" and oorlog means "war". I reckon it means something like "french fries in war", because of the messy look. ;-)
Stroopwafel
A nice waffle made from two thin layers of baked batter with a caramel-like syrup filling in the middle. Nice!...... and sweet.
Stamppot
A meal of mashed potatoes with varying ingredients like carrot, broccoli or usually served with smoked sausages (normally i will replace them with minced beef, since it is quite difficult to find a halal one).
No matter what, i prefer nasi lemak, nasi dagang, and nasi kerabu!. Counting days! ..... heh..heh..heh so, if you're having your meal now ~ "Eet Smakelijk" from me.

Is this "Poffertjes" the one you treat me and Intan when we were there? Sedapp...Tried Stroopwafel too. Hm...now salivating!!
Btw Pakcik, remember when we were having these and you were about to tell a story about a friend's mother who had cancer, and then I gave you the stop-right-there look without Intan noticing it? I was sure at that time that you understood me..
With regrets, today Ibu intan meninggal dunia...needless to say, she had cancer..Alhamdulillah, Intan was by her side..Al-Fatihah
miss j --> yup. tasty poffertjes. ;-)
.... yup, i noticed your look. gee, pretty sad to hear that. life is too short. al-fatihah to her mum.
